It was July 27, 2004 and Illinois State Senator, Barack Obama was giving the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention held at the Fleet Center in Boston, MA. At the time, he was a total unknown, yet his speech was mesmerizing and the following quote brought the house down.
“There is not a liberal America and a conservative America - there is the United States of America. There is not a black America and a white America and latino America and asian America - there's the United States of America" ~ Barack Obama
Over the past several years our country has been pulled apart by the various differences the citizens have on race, religion, education, the economy, the war in Afghanistan, illegal immigrants and what is quoted as the ‘worst oil spill in history", and the list goes on and on.
The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is not the worst oil spill in history, the worst oil spill was caused when the United States of America attacked Iraq, but that was ‘in the name of war’, so it doesn’t count for much.
I didn’t vote for President Obama in the 2008 election because I truly did not feel he had enough experience to take on a country that was involved in two wars, had lost millions of jobs, was involved in a housing crisis and was on the brink of a depression. Instead I cast my vote for Senator John McCain. It wasn’t a vote for him, but rather a vote against the possibility of Barack Obama becoming POTUS.
President Obama has now been in office less than 18 months and there isn’t a day that passes that I haven’t regretted my vote against him. The Republican Party has continually pushed our country further and further apart by attempting to find fault with anything and everything coming out of the White House. Instead of doing what they can to bring all sides to the table to work out legislation for our country, the Republicans appear to be going out of their way to keep the entire country ‘up in arms’.
My own personal opinion is their salaries should be immediately put on hold until they show some desire to work for the country, instead of against the people within the country.
President Obama has been inundated with one crisis after another since being sworn into office on January 21, 2009, yet continues to face one problem after another, head on.
He knows that according to the media, his poll numbers are falling like snowflakes, yet he continues to follow his agenda doing whatever he believes will benefit the people of the United States of America. Not liberal America and not conservative America, but for all the people of the Untied States of America.
It is my belief President Obama will eventually go down in the history books as being the finest president this country ever had.
I think it’s time for all of us to forget what the media is saying about him, listen to his speech and follow our hearts.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)I so enjoyed your article, Patricia! I have so much respect for Barack Obama, as a person and as a president. I find him immensely inspiring, every time I hear him speak.Thank you for your comment Jennifer. Everyone should respect the office of President, no matter who is in the oval office. It's the highest office in the land and the person holding the office should be respected, whether or not we agree with his/her policies. Sadly, that is not the case with President Obama. Very little respect has been shown for the office, or the man and it's a very unfortunate situation. Hopefully that will change after his first term and people will realize his heart in the right place.
Wow did you really vote for McShame?Johnny Boy
